Watching movies is something that most of us enjoy doing, although fewer and fewer people are choosing to go out to the movie theaters these days. Watching movies at home usually provides a more comfortable and convenient experience, and with the state of the art home theater systems, the sound and picture quality are not compromised. Owners of home theater systems testify to the fact that there is no better way to watch a movie than in the comfort of your own home theater room.

In order to have the best possible home theater room, you will need to make a plan to ensure that the best use has been made of your space and equipment. You will have a limited choice of where to place some of your items - owing to their size or requirements - so it makes sense to decide where to position these items first. When planning, you will need to prioritize these items and determine where these will be located before you can begin to make decisions about the rest of your items and furniture.

The best way to begin your plan is to measure and draw out the floor space in the room that will be your home theater room. You should then mark on the doors, windows and the direction in which any sunlight coming in to the room will fall. This last is important for deciding where to position your home theater projector screen because sunlight falling on the screen will impair your view of the picture. Once you have decided where your projector screen will be located, you should mark this both on your plan and on the wall.

The second thing to determine is where you will be putting your speakers. Ideally, you will consider placing them in the shape of sound barriers and isolation clips. Your primary considerations should be maximizing the quality of sound inside your home theater room, and keeping at a minimum the amount of sound that escapes the room. For true ’surround sound’, you will need to begin considering at this stage where your seating will be. For the best quality of sound, it is advised to place your speakers around the room, so that speakers will be placed on either side of those watching movies in the room.

Your third consideration should be seating. Once you have found a location for your seating that allows for the best possible view of the screen and positioning in relation to your speakers, you will need to think about comfort. The seats should not be placed too close together, as this will prevent viewers stretching out their legs or leaning backwards. If your home theater room has reclining seats, you will probably need to consider leaving even more room between your chairs.

There are numerous other accessories and a lot more furniture that you may consider purchasing for your home theater room. You will need to begin considering these at this stage in your planning. Tables, for example, may need to be positioned close to your seating. Lamps will probably be placed along the sides or towards the back of the room. Although you may choose not to invest in these accessories, there is no debate about their contributing to an exciting theater-style atmosphere.
