For those with a large (or even unlimited) budget, preparing and developing your home movie theater will be an exciting task in itself, but for the majority, money is a significant factor. Although developing your space will not be helped by a lack of money, it does not necessarily mean that your finished home movie theater will be inferior to those comprising more expensive items.

Once you have cleared a room for your home movie theater system, you will select a position for your large projector screen that is easy to view from around the room and which is not in the direct line of any sunlight filtering into the space. You will also need to consider the space required behind the television for the installation process. You will then set up your speakers around your home movie theater, positioning them so as to provide the best surround sound quality.

The wiring and installation that will need doing at this stage can be quite time-consuming, and potentially dangerous! It is worth preparing for and taking some time over this side of the process to ensure that it is done properly and safely.

Before purchasing or installing any of your equipment, it is imperative that you ascertain your central power circuit can maintain the load required the run the rest of your home alongside that of your home movie theater. You can find this out by learning your full power load.

The natural light coming into the room that will be your home movie theater is something that many people forget to consider - and then regret ever afterwards! Your projector screen will need to be positioned in such a way that it avoids any natural light coming in to the room, as this glare will prevent you from seeing the pictures. Heavy drapes are usually a good idea for blocking out sunlight.

You will, however, need some sort of light source in your home movie theater, for times when you are not watching movies. Many find that floor lamps are the best answer, as these provide a good and ambient source of illumination. Floor lamps can often be angled in such a way that they are very useful for settings such as this. They are also easy to access to turn on or off before or just after watching a movie.
