Home Theater Room Design
Although there are many benefits to enjoying movies from the comfort of our own homes, doing so with only a small television screen can often make the experience a disappointing one. More and more people are choosing to invest in large screen televisions to mimic the excitement of watching a movie in the movie theater. The ideal way of enjoying movies at home is to dedicate room to our home movie theater systems, providing a home movie theater. To get the most from our home theaters, we need to begin with a home movie theater design.
The sensible way to begin your home movie theater design is to determine your requirements and draw up a plan for the layout for your home movie theater. Once you have dealt with the requirements about which you have no option, space, comfort and safety should be your next concerns.
Before you begin planning the layout of your home movie theater, you will need to measure the space and draw this (to scale) out on paper. Once you have a scaled drawing of the room, begin deciding where the electrical items and furniture will be placed.
You must remember to take into account the space that you will need to leave around the electrical items and furniture in your home movie theater. This is particularly important with the movie screen, as this will need a significant space in front of it to provide the best quality viewing experience. You will also need to take into the position of any windows in your movie theater; should the sunlight stream directly on to your movie screen, you will find that the glare prevents a good view of the screen.
It is usually a good idea to also hang heavy drapes over any windows in your home movie theater. To provide the most atmospheric movie-watching experience, it is usually necessary to be in the dark. You will need to ensure that it is possible to block out all natural light whenever you so choose. Sticking black tape over the spot at which you will position your movie screen will allow you to see how the sunlight might affect your viewing experience.
When deciding your seating arrangements, it is often a good idea to move a chair around the room, checking the view of the screen from each of the positions. This should allow you to find the best possible position for your seating.
When placing your set of speakers, distributing the sound evenly around the room - thus maximizing the surround sound facility - will often take some planning. You should also bear in mind that a certain amount of wiring will be required and space should be allowed for this. For safety and aesthetic reasons, wiring should be kept to a minimum.
Once you have prepared and carried out your home theater design, you should install each of your electricals in your home movie theater, and this should be done one at a time. It is wise to install each electrical item separately to reduce the likelihood of overloading your main circuit and causing a power cut. This is another area where a well thought-out home theater room design will reap great rewards, as it allows you to install your home movie theater system logically and carefully.
