Home Theater Wiring
It seems that the tradition of visiting the movie theater to enjoy the latest releases is gradually on its way out. More and more people now choose to enjoy movies from the comfort and privacy of their own homes, and are investing in state of the art equipment to maximize their viewing pleasure. Designing and shopping to equip a home movie theater can be an enjoyable experience in itself, but the wiring and installing of the equipment can be a chore for most people.
But don’t be discouraged, because the rewards that a home movie theater can bring are enough to make this chore worth the hassle!
Most people find is useful to store their components and extras in a dedicated storage facility, and make lists of the items contained therein. This makes the components easier to track down and access, should there be a problem with any of your equipment. You will then need to assess the location of your home theater system, and ensure that you are able to access the wiring and that a minimum of wiring is visible in the room.
You may decide to place your movie screen in a central location, and there is no problem with this, providing you ensure easy access to overhead lighting and any power points that may be located behind the television. The television cables will need to be connected into the sockets that have been provided for them, and you must then assess the television reception. Completing this process carefully will prevent your main circuit from becoming overloaded and reduce the mixing up of the various wires.
The DVD player will then need to be placed on a shelf or cabinet, with space for the machine’s ventilation system to function and prevent it from overheating. The DVD player will need to be connected to both the television and the power supply. Should you have only one power socket within reach, ‘multi plugs’ are easy to get hold of from most electricals stores and web sites.
Using multi plugs is often a good idea because they are designed to prevent power surges, thus providing extra safety, and they will allow you to control your television, DVD player and speakers at the same source.
It is imperative that you test your speakers in various locations before completing the final wiring. There is no other way of ensuring that you have the best possible sound quality without testing different locations, as the acoustics of a room can be impossible to predict. Once you have decided upon a location for the speakers, you can begin wiring. When doing so, remember to bear in mind the detrimental affect of wires on the appearance of your home movie theater, and keep their exposure to a minimum. This may require fixing the wires along the bottom of the walls, or fitting it under the carpet.
Once your equipment has been installed and your furniture positioned, you are free to enjoy the rewards of your hard work!
