Since the development of the video camera, people have been enjoying movies as a way of passing the time, relaxing or simply being entertained, and this is an international hobby that is only ever increasing in popularity. As more and more people choose to enjoy movies in their homes, as well as in a movie theater, new and exciting equipment is being designed and sold to replicate the excitement of enjoying a movie in the cinema. But despite these advances, the atmosphere in the cinema, and the experience of sharing a movie with a room full of strangers, is something that cannot be truly reproduced in the home.

Movies that were written to be shown on a movie screen lose impact in their translation for a smaller screen, and even with a top of the range television, the visuals will never been seen as was intended. The movie theater is also the only place new releases can be shown, so prior to a movie being released on DVD, the movie theater is the only place it can be seen.

Most movie theaters still boast the traditional interior and plush, elegant seating; there are concessions stalls selling hot butter popcorn and fizzy drinks; with tantalizing adverts for upcoming releases. The building dedicated to enjoying movies provides an exciting atmosphere, unparalleled by home movie theaters.

Most cities are now home to multi-screen cinemas. Unlike the old days, when movie theaters comprised a single screen and could only show one movie at a time, we now have a choice of a dozen new releases in every cinema. These exciting selections ensure making a trip to the movie theater is an activity that benefits from minimal planning!

You will probably find that your local multi-screen cinema is located in or near a shopping mall or leisure complex. This is another bonus because it means that people are able to catch a movie at their local movie theater during a day out shopping, or just prior to visiting a restaurant for a meal. In this way, attending a movie theater is becoming ever more convenient.

Times have changed since the 1920s ‘picture houses’, but the movie theater remains a popular destination for those seeking entertainment and relaxation. While utilizing all the major developments in the industry, most movie theaters retain the traditional atmosphere of luxury and excitement. It is perhaps this ambience more than anything else that has secured the movie theater’s place in our culture.
